Health checks @ ASTF

ASTF, the occupational health service for the tertiary and financial sectors, supports companies and their employees through its periodic medical examinations. These health checks are designed not only to assess the health status of employees, but also to ensure that they are fit to perform their duties without risk to themselves or those around them.

A service included in your contributions

Our periodic examinations are covered as part of company contributions. Only the cost of the “blood test” option (performed beforehand by an external laboratory), as part of the periodic examination for those over 50, remains the responsibility of the employer (50€).

Priority to confidentiality

Respect for medical confidentiality and privacy is fundamental. The results of tests and assessments are strictly confidential and are only communicated to the employee concerned.

The global and anonymous data from all the health checks carried out are used to develop statistics for the ASTF’s annual report – a valuable tool for monitoring the evolution of the general health of employees in member companies and adjusting collective prevention measures.

How often should you have regular check-ups?

Periodic medical check-ups are recommended at intervals that vary according to age and professional context:

  • Between the ages of 20 and 49: an examination is necessary every 5 years.
  • From the age of 50: follow-up every 3 years is recommended to detect early signs of age-related disorders.

In certain specific cases (exposure to specific occupational hazards or work in a high-stress environment), the frequency may be shortened to ensure increased monitoring.

Why is a fitness certificate issued?

The ASTF has set a periodicity after each recruitment visit and after each consultation or health checkup, depending on the terms of the law.
It is necessary to keep all fitness certificates in order to be able to present them in the event of an ITM inspection.

Procedure for the health examination

  • Preparation (for those over 50 with the blood test option): Before the appointment, the employee must have a blood sample taken at an accredited laboratory. The cost is covered by the company.
  • On-site tests: The various tests are performed on-site by a medical assistant or a nurse, depending on the type of examination.
  • Consultation with the doctor: The occupational physician analyses the results and issues a medical fitness form, specifying any recommendations or adjustments that may be required.

Why are these health checks essential?

Periodic health checks play a crucial role in preventing illnesses and work-related accidents. In an environment where stress, sedentary lifestyle, and metabolic diseases are on the rise, these examinations enable:

  • Early detection of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Reducing occupational risks by monitoring the suitability between the employee’s health and the demands of their job.
  • Encourage a preventive and proactive approach to health, by guiding employees towards beneficial practices: balanced diet, stress management, physical activity, etc.

A person in good health is a key factor for the success and sustainability of their professional activities.
