Periodic medical examinations: the context
The tertiary and financial sectors were considered to present minimal risks; however, the evolution of working conditions and the emergence of psychosocial risks justify the need to conduct periodic examinations.
The medical check-ups conducted by ASTF allowed for monitoring the health of a portion of employees (on a voluntary basis). Starting December 1, 2025, these will be replaced by enhanced periodic examinations focused on sector risks (particularly psychosocial), enabling monitoring of all employees.
These periodic examinations are mandated by law and apply to all employees of member companies. This preventive approach aims to anticipate, among other things, the risk of long-term absenteeism, which incurs costs for businesses, as well as to safeguard the invaluable health of your employees.
Periodic medical examinations: the new formula
| Basic periodic examination | Periodic examination for those over 50 |
|---|---|
| • Consultation and interview with a doctor • Psychosocial questionnaire • Parameters (height, weight) • Body Mass Index & Body Fat Index • Vision test | In addition to the basic examination • Tonometry (ophthalmological examination) • Audiometry (hearing examination) • Bone density test (women) Option at employers’ request (fee-based) • Blood test |
Objectives of this approach
This reinforced medical surveillance aims to:
- Screen early and more broadly for physical and mental health problems in your employees.
- Raise awareness among your employees about the existence and role of occupational medicine.
- Establish health statistics that enable us to offer you targeted prevention measures.
Procedure to be followed by companies
We ask you to schedule these examinations:
- Priority: for employees who have never had an occupational medical visit,
- Then: according to the expiry dates indicated on their previous job fitness certificates (3 or 5 years *).
- Finally: if the expiry date is not indicated on their job fitness certificates, schedule their periodic medical examinations in order of employees’ entry into the company.
* Periodic examination every 3 years after age 50 and every 5 years before age 50.
Practical Aspects
- Appointment booking: Use the usual reservation interface (https://rdv.astf.lu/).
- Type of appointment: Select « Periodic Examination ».
- Paid option (blood test for those over 50): Check the box « Periodic Examination + » within the form.
Costs: Basic examinations are free (included in the annual contribution). Only the supplementary blood test, when performed as part of the Periodic Examination +, will be invoiced to the company (50€).
We also wish to draw your attention to the fact that, faced with the increase in missed appointments, the ASTF Board of Directors has decided to charge 50€ henceforth for any appointment not cancelled with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice (this amount will be charged to the company).
Reminder
Employers must:
- Keep all job fitness certificates.
- Ensure that periodic medical examinations are systematically carried out before their expiry.
- Ensure that all employees, including those who have never had a job fitness certificate, undergo a periodic medical examination.
⚠️ Important : the Labour and Mines Inspectorate controllers may require job fitness certificates during inspections. The absence of compliant documents exposes the employer to penalties. Furthermore, please note that an employee without a job fitness certificate at hiring and with less than 3 years’ seniority could not, if necessary, benefit from professional reclassification.
We count on your collaboration to organize your employees’ periodic medical examinations accordingly, in order to remain compliant with legislation.
Your referring doctor and the ASTF team remain at your complete disposal for any clarifications regarding the mandatory periodic medical examinations. For any questions regarding appointment booking: Contact our secretariat via
